Why join a fraternity? Well, why not? The opportunity has been staring at my face all along and I’ve realized that I should not let go of this chance to find real companionship among people that I can consider as brothers & sisters. It is not a common chance to be part of this group of people with whom I can establish a firm brotherly bond based on good virtues and principles. I’m joining a fraternity not merely for exposure or prestige but to help the brotherhood make a stand on the values they’ve nurtured and join them in helping others for the betterment of the society.

Of the many fraternities and organizations who label themselves as being a lot of things, I’m joining the SAE not just because my mind told me so, but also because of this sense of trust I feel I’ve had rooted on this group. I have always believed in the power of the mind and proper reasoning in helping you make good decisions but experiences have also taught me that only when your mind becomes one with your heart will you be able to find real fulfillment and meaning in the decisions you have made. My decision is pure and not tainted by the fact that my biological brother is involved in this group nor influenced by anyone’s opinion. I’ve had my mind and heart reconciled when I made this decision and so I know I called the shots right.

As I’m joining this group, I’m making my expectations simple but I’m keeping my hopes high. I expect to be with people who can accept me as I am but as much as possible I will also try to maintain a flexible attitude to properly mingle with all the members in the group. May the members and those who belong in the higher echelons of the group remember their responsibilities and purposes and maintain good moral standards. May everyone who is part of the fraternity treat each other as real brothers and be respectful, kind and just to each other. A fraternity may be one group but it is still composed of individuals who possess varying and unique personalities, characters and idiosyncrasies coming from all walks of life with different upbringings. I hope we’ll all be considerate enough to understand each other and treat each other as equals. I expect that everyone in the group knows what really a fraternity is about; that a fraternity strives for a real and humane purpose; that a fraternity is about lending a hand to someone, not putting a hand on someone; that a fraternity doesn’t tolerate cruelty, injustice and immorality; that a fraternity doesn’t turn its cheek from the evils and illnesses of the society, but rather, fight against them; that a fraternity must be a microcosm of mankind in utopia. I hope that the brotherhood will maintain their good virtues and principles and propagate good values among the society. And above all, I hope we’ll all acknowledge that we are merely messengers of good will and that there’s a Supreme Being watching over us.

I want to be able to contribute a lot for the betterment of this group and for the betterment of the society it is serving. I can use the talents and skills that I have to help in the group’s activities and advocacies. I will give time for the group and I will act as a good example to other people to uphold the group’s ideals. I will also contribute as much ideas as I can to help the brotherhood achieve its goals and missions. I can use my strength to assist the group in carrying out what needs to be carried out as long as it doesn’t overlap with my values and principles as an individual and as a child of God.

I can see that the members of SAE are simple but strong individuals willing to strive on the purpose of serving the society and are just and kind to their co-members. They can carry themselves well among others. I feel that they’re strongly bonded and that they strive to maintain good moral standards to uphold the group’s reputation. They seem to be true to their words and I can see how they value their brothers.

I will try my best to be a worthy member of this fraternity. I will make use of my best qualities to be a good brother to everyone. I’m hardworking, respectful, honest and trustworthy. I’m also a flexible person and I can adjust to the varying personalities that I might be encountering. I am also very patient. I work hard to achieve something and I try as much as possible to avoid mediocrity.  I don’t settle with prejudices. I take time to know people and I try as much as I can to understand them and accept them for who they are.

As individuals, we all have our differences. This is an inevitable truth we all have to face and accept. But this diversity offers a wide range of opportunities. We can’t shun away from each other and wallow in solitude. After all, no man is an island. The fact that we all have our own strengths and weaknesses only means that no one can ever be perfect and that we have each other to fill-in on each one’s imperfections. I know this brotherhood exists for a purpose. We may all be different, but if we work together, we can create ONE great change for this society, and for the whole world.

Neophyte/Baptismal Name: Marlene Aguilar Batch 28 (BS Info. Tech. 4)of Sigma Delta Leyte

What motivates me to join SAE?
It has been a long time since I first heard SAE. Back then, all I have in mind is that SAE is just one stupid organization and all members are freaks, stupid, arrogant, trouble-makers, bad influence and all those negative attributes you can think of.
But one act of the organization made me think the positive way around. It was morning, first day of a semester. As i was approaching at the gate, I saw a couple of students cleaning at the gate and some parts of the university. Knowing that they are not student labors and there was no instructor ordering them, I wondered and I was amazed. It was a small act, yet, it was noble to me.
What I saw made me think for too many questions. Some of the questions were slowly answered as each day passed by but were not. Day by day, I became more and more aware of the great works of the organization, from cleaning the university to tree planting activities outside the campus. I also found out that most (if not all) members are known to be good students in school. They abide the rules and regulations of the organization and so as with the university. And what's more impressing is, the spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood is present among the members.
So, what motivates me to join SAE? Simple, to answer the unanswered questions. Second, I want to learn more from this organization. I want to join them doing good deeds. Lastly, I want to touch lives and correct the idea of other people that SAE is not a bad Fraternity. And I can only do this if I, myself, will set as an example to them.
What contributions can I give to the organization? For stater like me, the best contribution I can give for now is to learn what I have to learn, to follow what I have to follow and to do what I need to do.

Note: I'll be posting the poem soon...

Here's an essay from a Sigma Lambda Tyro as part of his requirements in the Sigma Phase:

Why join SAE?

Joining a fraternity is not just easy as in online games like “RAGNAROK” and “DOTA”, it involves a process of decision making in which you need to measure every possible outcomes that might occur. The word “FRATERNITY” itself frightens everyone and leading to misinterpretation of its significance and membership process. Even a simple me thought that every fraternity have the same procedures in recruitment and means of becoming a member. But what really convinced and made myself decided to join aside from having absence of hazing as a part of rituals are as follows:

First, I want to acquire a long term brotherhood .Not just a mere brotherhood but that is a unique and have a harmonious relationship among its members as well as treating you more than just a member. Brothers who are really there for you, in helping you in times of your rainy days and of your rejoice. The kind of brotherhood that will influence you to become strong and a better person.

Second is to be a developed motivational influencer to everybody through service. I do believe that this organization will really make me a good servant leader. Servant leadership is not an oxymoron; servant and leader do always stand together as a model of leadership through service. Just like what they say “SERVANTHOOD is the essence of true leadership. It is not time for leaders to stand up, but for true leaders to kneel down.” I’m expecting too much of myself and to the organization as a medium for me to contribute for the common good of the countrymen.

And finally helping me to be excellent in both academic and extra-curricular activities in order for me to be successful and gain a better future.
"Our strength depends not in quantity, but in quality and in unity".

Their minds and hearts speaks as well...

(An Essay of made by Applicant Arman B.-Sigma Delta ’09, now a brother)

I am joining SAE because I want to become a member of this fraternity, not just a “trip” but it’s a calling for me, a calling that hopefully would never make me contrite after the survival. I’m hoping as well not to become a boastful one after the series of tests.
My first insight why I’m willing to join this respectable fraternity is that my need or want of a so-called “protection”; a secondary protection that comes from all of us, from the members of this fraternity, as one blood, as brothers and sisters that are working together to protect and defend one another, especially those innocents who are members of this organization, against the enemies. The second thing is my necessity. I really need full support, help and understanding from the brothers and sisters of this fraternity in order to grasp and obtain my ambition in life so that in the future I can help them, brothers and sisters who needs help, in reprisal.
Actually, Mr. Vencent S. (Sigma Delta), now Brod. S., recruited and convinced me before when I was studying at EVSU-Tacloban (BSCE 1-1st Sem, SY:2006-2007) to join this fraternity, but I did not gave much significance with his offer that time due to some reasons. But when the time came when I transferred from EVSU-Tacloban to SLSU-San Juan on the SY: 2008-2009, Mr. Noel M. and Mr. Ronnie N., now brothers, approached and convinced me join and have the same fraternity. I really am thinking for their offer not only once, not twice, but many times until such moment came and I’ve decided to embrace the fraternity. They did not exert any kind of force for me to have them but I, my own will pushed me to join. I know that this association will never lead me into the wrong way that is why I voluntarily accepted the music.
If ever I am qualified to become a member of this organization, the only thing I can contribute in order to make this a well-developed and become a progressive is to render my service to the future brothers and sisters and become a good producer of aspiring, deserving students, as a good recruiter. I’ll give and perform my obligations the best that I can. I will show to them that I deserve to become one by having these virtues; being respectful to others, showing desirable attitudes and positive behaviors.
Generally, I can’t promise to give something but I’ll be trying my very best to provide something for the betterment of this association.

(by Applicant Raymond E.-Sigma Delta ’09, now a brother)

My purpose of joining this fraternity is to have a well-organized association, to become a member of a fraternity that practices true and real brotherhood.
One of the things that I will acquire is being a mature man, a man with strong decisions, and with strong personality.
All I can give and share to this fraternity is my loyalty and honesty. These I think are my asset as one of the aspirants.

(An Essay of made by Applicant Jannalyn T.-Sigma Delta ’09, now a sister)

My main purpose of joining is not just because I was convinced by a friend (Brod. Jay Ian O.), instead, it is my own will. I believe that the organization can do more and I really like its motive which focused on real brotherhood. Unlike other fraternities, Sigma Alpha Epsilon has no personal interest. I liked its objectives, the highlights of this organization, and these convinced me to join.
The things that I will be acquired is that I could learn more especially in dealing people, how to promote equality and justice to everyone, and most especially, it will make me more knowledgeable on things happening around me and on handling them.
The things I could share to make the fraternity more firm is may time and ideas that are beneficial to the organization.

(by one of the neophytes-SY: 2009-2010)

My purpose of joining the SAE Fraternity is to improve my leadership skills. It will be my stepping-stone to achieve my career and an inspiration fo0r me to change for the better. It will serve also as a guide to my study.
All I can share to this fraternity is my loyalty and honesty to the future brothers and sisters.

I will be having mine, soon...

From Tyro (Pledgee) Hebe (a Greek Goddess):

Why Join SAE?

Many people are joining organizations such as fraternities just to have a group that they can call brothers and sisters without thinking their goal if they can join such organizations. Fraternities are associations were you can gain friendship but, the others think that it is a hood which has a tainted meaning. Where in fact, some fraternities have the achievements that cab help their brothers and sisters to grow more and become a better person. That’s why I decided to join SAE.

Since I decided to attend the orientation about SAE, it made me think that not all fraternities are the same. I thought SAE is like other fraternities who search for members without any means of high standards. Hence, I was wrong. They choose members with potentials and spearhead activities that will result to personal development. In my opinion, SAE really has great difference among other fraternities. Specifically, the initiation, they have their own phases that would definitely be beneficial to Tyros to grow and be initiative on future possible activities. They also give importance to our academics which is a big thing for me, because of what I have heard, in other fraternities, they are more on activities that leads to poor academic performance specially that of the neophytes. I am inspired with their vision to do better in school.

As to what I know, they also give importance to the respectfulness of its members. This also motivates me to exercise the said trait not only in words but in actions as well. Another reason that I want to join this organization is that I want to expose myself to different activities, through this; I can not just help others, but learn various lesson as well that would help my self as a person. One more thing is that the knowledge that I will learn from those activities can be echoed and shared to my fellow students to improve themselves as well, and be more responsible on their studies.

On most fraternities that I have heard, SAE is that only one that changed my mind to join such organization. SAE is really different that is why I am very willing to join this organization and I am very sure of this decision. No hesitations why I want to join SAE. Moreover, I want to join SAE because I want to be a better person and I joined here because I want to prove to myself that I can do everything.

When given the chance, I would do everything to the best of my abilities.

From Tyro (Pledgee) Hephaestus (a Greek God):

Why Join SAE?

Nowadays, all fraternities are clichés. That all neophytes will suffer from the hands of the higher members and even from their “Lords”. That joining the fraternities would always mean physical contact such as paddling and the worst, hazing. This maybe the reason why my father prohibited me from joining any fraternity.

I love my father; I respect him as much as my 19 years of existence here on earth. So why did I broke my promise to my father? It is because this time, he is wrong. He generalized that all fraternities are alike, which is wrong.

I consider myself to have grown mature on an early age. I engaged in different activities that I know and was recommended by my parents that would improve my character as an individual. I saw the difficulties of life at the age where usually, the people of my kind would simply play around and have fun all day. But no, because of these difficulties, I had the greater realization that if I start today, at my young mind, I would gain enough experience that would be a great edge among everyone when I reach my adolescent stage. And I was right.

Today, I am so glad that I know that I have an edge to many of the youth in a lot of ways; maybe not on physicality’s and wealth, but on character and experience. I can differentiate the good from evil, the right from wrong, and decide what is best for everyone involved; so I applied to join SAE.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon was the weirdest fraternity that I have heard from a comrade which happens to be a member of the said organization. He gave me a brief overview of the organization and it immediately caught my attention and interest. So he set an appointment for a formal orientation and I appeared there. On the orientation, I saw a better image of what SAE is and made me more eager to join.

The main reason why I applied to join SAE is to further improve my inner being, develop and enhance whatever characteristic I have as of today for the better and make new friends, brothers and sisters. I not a minor anymore, so I can decide for my own and be responsible of any possible consequences that entail it. Nonetheless, this decision came from me, so I will stand for it.

From Tyro (Pledgee) Hestia (a Greek God):

Why Join SAE?

As we hear the word “fraternity”, what usually comes up into our minds are hazing, paddling, riot and so on, which are all negative. That’s why we cannot blame most of the parents for not allowing their children to join such organization. They do not allow their children for the fear of getting them involved to any chaos that may lead to imprisonment because of serious conflicts with other fraternities. Hence, for the possibility of their children committing failing grades since they cannot focus to their studies anymore. Finally, for a high risk of engaging on prohibited drugs. These are the major reasons of the parents why they disallow their children to such organizations. But I know these are all our misconceptions about fraternities. We have to know what fraternity really is, for us to appreciate the real meaning of it.

So why join SAE (Sigma Alpha Epsilon)?

When I attended the Orientation and Recruitment Presentation, all my misconceptions about fraternities were clarified. That it is not all about paddling and frat wars but instead, about service for the community and the meaning brotherhood, deep friendship and camaraderie. I want to join SAE for I know that among other fraternities, it is here in SAE where I can see the true meaning of brotherhood and what fraternities really mean. For me, as a student, it is a right choice joining here in SAE rather than joining among other fraternities; for I know that it will help and inspire me as a student to do better in my academic performance just to survive and be a part of SAE someday. I want to join SAE not just because of its being one of the leading Greek Lettered Organizations in the Philippines , but because of their initiations such as the Sigma, Alpha and Epsilon Phase are really well designed to mold us Tyros to become a better person physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

I know it is not easy to join an organization like this. It has been really challenging in my part for I am not so sure if I can survive. But even though it’s hard, I am very willing and very interested to join. I am joining this organization because I am willing to give my service to communities and I want to conduct some activities that will help my fellow students to develop their personalities and improve their skills through such activities like conducting seminars, tutorial sessions, and even contests in different fields of dancing, singing, in academics and sports not only to my fellow students but to my fellow youth as well. I want to join here in SAE because I know they can help me how to become an effective leader for me to be able to effectively lead everybody in different activities for SAE is considered as the incubator for future leaders. That’s how unique SAE was. Which creates interest in people to join the said organization.

Ang lupit namang sumali sa SAE, may essay pa. That's not easy (wala ngang essay to get into UP).  That should weed out yung mga hindi marunong magsulat (at magisip -- you can't write if you can't think).

Good stuff.  I like it.

It will be fun if you can save the essays and read them 10, 20 years in your reunion to see how you have changed in your outlook in life or if you had achieved your initial objectives.

Anyways kapatid, siguro ok lang naman yung gumamit nang sariling atin like wikang Filipino or Bisaya for that matter basta kung saan siya makakapag express nang saloobin at yung ikanga'y "deepest recesses of the heart" maipalabas (char). Sa palagay ko, kung hindi ninyo mamasamain, sana nga, may ganitong medium or somewhat like this be it creative arts like painting, essay writing, etc. required sa mga applicante para duon nila mabuhos ang kanilang enerhiya imbes naman pagsulsulan sila nang hate breed laban sa ibang rival frat. With regards to Community Chapters kapatid, hindi ako makapag commento kasi wala pa naman kaming chapter of that kind pero I think same lang cguro, creative arts (like if magaling sa pagpapanday, pagmason dami naman avenue at talent laden naman rin sila) or thru writing (sa wikang kaya nila; bolpen at lapis ok na yun, tapos ilagay sa folder or ibookbind after 20 yrs, viola! may pang aniv message kana! ) e.g. wag sana vandalism ha, or street art or grafitti (But honestly, maganda naman yung end product nila, its just that it should have been in the right place not in a public property)..

Add mo na sayo kapatid na Lib. Kaw pa, lakas mo. Squirrel ka talaga. Mahilig ka rio ba sa Alaska?

Just want to share this...

"Fraternity"
-Rukawa, SD Chapter

I
It's an honor society that was founded in the south,
Established by the brainy which quality has been brought.

II
It started in 60's and now it's still alive,
Pursuing noble deeds and inspiring many lives.

III
It is visible in three major islands,
In foreign countries here comes an eagle brand.

IV
We love this fraternity from the beginning,
It's now beyond forty and we'll keep on pushing.

V
Even the brethrens are raising their hands,
In battling problems while the frat expands.

VI
All shall hail to our dear fraternity,
We'll shout our voices loudly and clearly.

VII
It must be given meaning and dignity,
Let the strength remain in a group called "SA-Eh!"
ΣAE dwells in my heart forever...

and this...

"SAEholic"
-Rukawa, SD Chapter

I
Staring at the precious dots,
R'minds me of those arduous past,
Thinking the torments I've got,
Glides the tears and firms the heart;

II
Now that I am one of them,
Stands proud with blissful feeling,
Together with these great men,
Mold SAE a pulchritude thing;

III
Among others let SAE soar,
Noble virtues, let's give more,
The fire scorching, make it grow,
Our love for service, let's show;

IV
Let us grip our brethrens' hands,
Feel the essence with the grands,
Spread to them our poignant love,
Break never our genuine bond;

V
Forget never our promise and vows,
When we're tyros who're full of sorrows,
Forever let us cherish our SAE,
Let's be die-hard for eternity.
ΣAE dwells in my heart forever...

Taking off from "Parang facebook", are there fraternities that conduct, for lack of a better or more apt term, "cyber-initiations"?  Given how spread Filipinos around the world (as well as fratmen and sorority women, as seen from this forum), this may work.

If there could be e-burol, who knows about the possibilities.

I can only surmise the quality of brothers/sisters you have in your fraternity. I also agree this should be a requirement on every aspiring neophyte. I love the poems posted.

Mga kaibigang esSAyErs,

I'm guessing, no one will be stupid enough to plagiarize an essay to get into your fraternity of poets, writers and thinkers.

Has there been an issue about plagiarism?

(Maybe the Supreme Court and the Dean of the UP College of Law can learn from the SAE).

An Essay by Tyro Joey De Leon, a current applicant for batch 2010.

**It is good to note that good grammar and better English gives you a lot of edge, but when the heart and mind speaks, whether it's a bit grammatically challenged, it knows no bounds. Below I highlighted some of his good points, this applicant has a potential and is willing to learn and strive- life in general.

I joined this fraternity for friendship and unity. And someday fraternity can help with my problems because fraternity like a family, will never leave you in case of emergency or etc. They are always willing to help their Brod/sis. And also why I joined is to meet somebody new who is not related to me so I can easily and comfortably talk to that person.  Because when the time I talk with somebody that is not related to me, I’m get nervous because I’m not totally comfortable to talk with strangers because  you don’t  even know how is he/she and where he/she came from because nowadays it’s difficult to trust a person. So that‘s why I joined a fraternity to learn how to trust. I realized that it’s nice and better to have many friends and contacts, meet new people, new faces, new attitudes to discover and new attitude to avoid.  Because life is short and time is gold, make use of your life in doing something new.  Create and discover new moments that you have not even experienced before. Because every minute spent, you cannot take it back. I want to enjoy my short life in the way of fraternity and to help the community.

Why I chose SAE because one of my good friend approached me to join their fraternity and I asked him what is the name of your fraternity and he said SAE. After I heard the word, SAE, in my mind it’s a big question mark because I never heard of it before. That day I’m confused what is SAE and I talked to him and I asked him what is SAE, is it a good or bad fraternity he said that SAE is good fraternity and he encouraged me to join their organization. He told me that most members of SAE are educated and professionals. They have no enemy, it’s not scary to wear the fraternity logo anywhere you are and SAE members are friendly, good and nice people. After we talked, in myself I’m not satisfied with what’s my good friend said because nowadays, people think the word fraternity is bad influence in a life of a person. After a day, he approached me again to join their organization. I told him I must be oriented before I join so that I can decide what should I do. Then he set a date and time. The day I was oriented I saw in my own eyes and hear with my own ears that they are professional and are good people, they do what is their duties to the organization and the Do’s and the Don’ts. In that day, I truly understand that all my good friend said is true about SAE. And in that day I understand why  my good friend joined SAE.

I expect that SAE can encourage me to be responsible and to be a better person in the community and help me to improve my knowledge of thinking and to improve my skills to be a better person and help to encourage myself that studies is important in the life of a person. I expect that SAE can be my light when I’m in the dark and be my guidance when I’m lost. I hope SAE members are friendly, good person, responsible honest and loyal to their brod/sis. I expect that members of SAE will never leave their brod in case of emergency, that they will stand what they promise to the organization. Do their duties being a SAE. I expect that SAE will always and willing to continue to help the community.

My observation among the members of SAE member is that they are educated and professionals, they can be trusted and they are friendly. They can be a good friends, they truly help their brod/sis whenever they can.  SAE is not like those other fraternities, they are good persons, they are concerned to their brod/sis. Others are following what is written in tickler and others disobeying what are written in tickler because some of the members of SAE fell in love to their brod/sis. That is not allowed in SAE, not a free- love fraternity. I observed they are practicing to improve their lifestyle and enhance their skills. They are serious in studies and works. They encourage tyros like me to discover and to improve the lifestyle we have and enhance tyro’s skills and practicing   to be a good citizen in the community. Encouraging us to be responsible, honest, patient, kindness, and loyal and to be true gentleman like them.

My contribution is that I’m going to be a good person or member of SAE and I will follow the rules and regulation of organization. I’m honest and loyal to SAE. I can be trusted like keeping a things or etc. and I can keep secrets. I can be a good person and gentleman like those members of SAE. I’m also a dictator to those people or persons has difficulties to realize what is good and bad and what is better to do or better to avoid. To help them realize that they are not doing right. I can contribute my short time to join their community service or etc. I will use SAE for a good reason and give honor to the organization. I will stand and protect SAE until the last drop of my blood and I will not expose the fraternity seal to vandalism. I will do and follow my duties of being a SAE.

My good qualities is that I am a good person, friendly, loyal and a gentleman. I can be trusted like to keep things and also keep secrets. I am also a dictator to those people or person having difficulties to realize what is good and bad and what is right and what would be avoided. I like helping people and community activities and I am not lazy or spoiled.

I can only surmise the quality of brothers/sisters you have in your fraternity. I also agree this should be a requirement on every aspiring neophyte. I love the poems posted.

Thanks, prend yokababz.

These writers are just ordinary applicants (students, not professional writers) with incandescent insights.
I think, plagiarizing others' works is not their act. Plagiarism issue in our group? Wala pa akong alam...

"Equality"
-Rukawa, SD Chapter

I
When we entered in the kingdom of torments,
All of us had experienced the real sadness,
It was indeed a memorable moment,
Coping all those tender love and sweet caress.

II
We are all equal because of the blows,
In slaps, kicks and burns that made us so blue,
To our dear masters we'd shown our respect,
In this society there's no place for weak.

III
We really don't care who came first and who're last,
We just care to men who are true to the frat,
As long as he prove that he has a pure love,
There's no need to ask instead we shall be glad.

IV
For we are all equal in our God's eyes,
We shall treat our brethrens equally, right?
There's no J or S (Junior or Senior) in this group of grand,
Give due respect to all Epsilonians.
ΣAE dwells in my heart forever...

Tula...

“Ang Pangako”

I

Dati ay isang hamak na studyante lamang,

Walang atupag kundi mag-aral nang lubusan,

Hangad magtapos sa paaralang pinasukan,

Upang sa magulang siya’y maipagyayabang.

II

Ngunit isang saglit siya’y natutong sumilip,

Sa kapatiran na sa kanya ay lumapit,

Nagpapayo sa kaibigan at napag-isip,

Kung ano ang desisyon na maaaring iguhit.

III

Makapagbibigay kaya ‘to ng kabutihan?

O tutulak sa madilim na kinabukasan?

IV

VI

Ano’ng tamis pakinggan himingting ng paligid,

Samantalang patuloy pa ang kada sa dibdib,

Tenga ay naghintay sa magpapabatid,

Isip nakatuon sa kani-kanilang bibig.

VII

Maya’y may biglang tumunog at lumagapak pa,

Sa may ‘di kalayuang pook ito nagmula,

Sumunod ang hiyaw ng isa niyang kasama,

Hindi nagpagupo kahit luhaa’t manhid na.

VIII

Oh, anong tuwa niya at napakaligaya,

Napagtagumpayan niya'ng tila penitensya,

Mabuti nga siya'y buhay at humihinga pa.

XIV

XVIII

'Wag sanang kaligtaan ang 'yong mga pangako,

Noong ika'y baguhan pa nitong ating grupo,

Ibigin mo 'to at manumpang maging aktibo,

Maging responsable at maging mabuting tao.

XIX

I suppose it can be said that based on actual evidence as contained in this forum, if there's any Filipino fraternity which can claim an actual tradition of literary culture, it is SAE.

And not those other frats which claim lineage to American literary frats.

I agree. I vote SAE as THE pinoy fraternity with a literary tradition.

BTW, I just read something in the NYTimes that might interest the literary-minded SAE. (I'm equating writing with education, and education with a deep desire for self-improvement).

http://www.nytimes.c...l?src=me&ref=us

Essentially, the best return on investment on education is at the pre-K level.

I heard there is a debate of increasing by 2 years ang edukasyon sa pinas. Perhaps  this could be considered as well. The last paragraph in the piece caught my attention:

"the purpose of education is what it has always been: to develop a well-rounded, knowledgeable and adaptable person; to create upward mobility through smarts and character."

SAE, keep on writing.  Without the PF, many would not have known about your frat.

Thanks for  that acknowledgement kaibigang apo80s. I could not agree more to that paragraph you quoted, re-defining a fraternity man with well-rounded programs led by the fraternity itself.. sana ganito.

I know that a lot of fraternities dwell in literature and arts too. Hats off to them, sana ma post din ninyo yung mga literary contributions para marami din ang matututo.I could not say SAE started this program and as a pinoy fraternity with literary tradition? We could start at that kaibigang apo80s and we'll give that a push  Its just that we think what we applied here in our fraternity, might as well be useful information tool too to other fraternity systems. Ika nga, to uplift and promote the entire fraternity community.

Best regards.
