I don't think so.

Maybe you are referring to tau alpha upsilon: http://en.wikipedia....u_alpha_upsilon
For as long as there are men of stout character, men whose eyes seek the truth, men who call each other brother and mean it, so will there be TAU ALPHA.

I remember being told that Tau Alpha categorizes members into two groups: the Taus and the Alphas. Is this true? Or is it a secret. ;)

If so, what are the criteria in such categorization? Thanks in advance, The Argo 1932!

Taus are brods who have been in the Fraternity for less than a year.

When they reach their batch's 1st anniversary they are already Alphans. There are certain things that Taus cannot yet do or are not qualified to be. What these things are, well, they're only for our knowledge. ;)

Interesting. Now ko lang narinig ito na meron pala ang Tau Alpha. this is also very similar with APO, bro. When you survive your final rites you are considered halfbrod, in Eta our term is "Junior" brod. after a year your batch will need to apply for induction into the fraternity and conduct weeklong service projects; big or small depende sa budget at kakayahan ng batch. when deemed successful and your batch is accepted, you are given the fraternity rituals in a solemn ceremony and officially given all the rights and benefits of a full fledge senior brod.

in the US they call this observation period as pledging.

Do you have seniority?

We don't have seniority.

between resident junior brods and resident senior brods, yes. but only until you are given your "rituals" and you get inducted to full fledge membership.
between full fledge members officially in APO there is none, walang seniority. but in our chapter meron and expected by older batches especially during AA gatherings.

Question, The Argo 1932:

At ang recent batches daw (when I say recent, I refer to the late 80s, early 90s) ay optional na lang daw ang pagpapakalbo. How true is this tradition/belief? Thanks sa pagsagot!

Our heads are shaved including the armpits, pubic, and leg hair. This is done way after The Final Rites, not right after and definitely not during the Final Rites. It signifies birth as a new man.

We then schedule a day where these bald brods would go around the College of Engineering then proceed to Palma Hall to meet up with our Sigma Rho (at the AS Lobby) and APO (Green House) allies and greet them with "Isang malaking... P-K-!!!"

Used to be compulsory but not now.

I remember my time when I was bald, I was courting this girl from UST. I visited her at her school. I was wearing my frat jacket, a white shirt, and tattered jeans with matching doc martens. A UST professor approached me and asked me what school I'm from.

I said, "U.P., ma'am."

She quickly retorted, "You see, here in UST, students look like students."

I immediately quipped, "Well ma'am, in UP, it doesn't matter what you wear and how you look like. What matters is what is inside here. *pointing at my cranium*"  B)

Walk out ang lola.

OT: Hehehe. Ricarte?

Duda ko he falls under the "anak o apo ng Tau Alpha" qualification.

Maybe he USED to be an engineering student then transferred to another college... or another university.
